The vestibular system is part of your sensory system that helps you orient your body in space so you can maintain your balance. While your vestibular system is stimulated any time you move your body, you can work more directly with it when you deliberately move your head, neck, and eyes. The main vestibular structures in your inner ear sense the position and movement of your head in relation to gravity and relay this information to your brain to help you stay balanced. Your eyes, of course, also relay your position to your brain.
In this class, you'll stimulate and challenge your vestibular system with coordinated neck and eye movements, both seated and standing and balancing.
Vestibular stimulation helps to quiet mental chatter and can give you a sense of tranquility afterwards.
We end this class with a simple peripheral vision exercise that will make you feel calm and relaxed.
