Mindful Flow - Yoga for a Spacious Mid-Back

When our back feels stiff that tension is often focused around our mid-back area where our thoracic spine and lumbar spine meet. This area of the back serves as a connection point for many back muscles and is known as the thoraco-lumbar fascia. This junction where the spine moves from a concave to a convex curve is a very mobile area that we often over-rely on throughout our yoga practice and in our everyday postural habits.

If you have the tendency to thrust your ribs forward as you back bend or side bend in your yoga practice, this class is for you! We'll move with this mid-back area in mind, keeping it spacious and buoyant throughout the practice. You'll find greater core strength and less back tension in the process!

Props recommended:

  • a bolster, pillow, or rolled up blanket to place under your sacrum as you rest on the back
  • padding for under the knees
  • a cushion or pillow to sit on
