Gentle Hatha - Yoga for Hip, Spine, and Shoulder Mobility

A relaxing yoga class that gently and slowly loosens up the major joints in the body - hips, shoulders, and spine.

We begin luxuriously with 40 minutes of reclined stretches for the hips, legs, back, and shoulders before a short practice of cat/cow and downward dog (options are given to use the chair to reduce knee or wrist strain).

After we practice a couple standing poses to strengthen the legs and open the shoulders and chest, we lay on the belly and practice a few different movements for the arms to strengthen the back.

We end the class with a seated sequence that mobilizes our spine through a simple side bend, twist, and forward bend.

Props you may use:

  • a cushion or pillow (always good to have at least one nearby
  • a chair (to reduce knee or wrist strain in table pose and downward dog)

Accessibility:

  • we practice poses laying on our back, on hands and knees (with option given to use chair), standing, laying on belly, and seated on the floor
