In this practice we'll engage in cross body movements that work both sides of the body and brain simultaneously.
Cross body or contralateral movements are when each side of your body is doing something different in a coordinated way, or when any movement crosses the midline. It usually involves opposite upper and lower limbs working together.
These movements work both sides of the brain and can improve coordination, proprioception, and overall kinaesthetic awareness.
While we engage in contralateral movements when we walk, run, and swim, these patterns become more challenging if they're not practiced regularly. Since we spend so much time sitting, which in effect separates our upper from our lower body, it’s super beneficial to incorporate these movements into your practice.
In this Chair Yoga class you’ll hone your motor skills for better balance while enhancing core strength and your ability to focus.
You may also experience an overall feeling of calm and equanimity after this practice, another effect achieved through cross body movements.
